Story

The Concept

  • Three 9th graders encounter an alien who equips them with super powered skateboards, futuristic training, and guidance that will help them save the world!

  • The macro storyline is basic...good vs. evil; a madman trying to rule the world versus super-empowered teenagers doing their best to stop him..

A blinding flash ignites the night sky and Austin, Tristen, and Melina are launched to the ground by the unexplained energy. After regaining their senses, they see a glowing light in the adjacent woods, grab their skateboards, and cautiously enter. They follow the light deeper and deeper and freeze in a panicked fear. They are face to face with an alien!  The creature remains calm, motions for them to follow, and turns around and begins to walk away.

The kids are in shock as they enter a space ship that is capable of camouflaging itself in any environment. The creature, who introduces himself as Lantoos, leads them to a futuristic display panel and shows them a disturbing video that depicts the Earth five years into the future.

The entire planet has been contaminated! Rivers are green, trees are dead, and people are wearing gas masks. The video zooms out showing the United States...and KABLAM!  The entire country is obliterated by a nuclear missile!

The kids are awestruck and look to Lantoos for an explanation. The small but wise creature takes a deep breath and then begins to tell them a story that details the events leading to the Earth's demise…

Lantoos And The Earth's Demise

Dr. Lorn & His Evil Transformation

Dr. Lorn, the government's premier geneticist and the head of the Army’s advanced concepts "Cyborg" division, was determined to make his son Trent normal again. Trent lost his arm in a childhood car accident and Lorn convinced the Cyborg advisory board to authorize the use of a futuristic prosthetic prototype as a replacement.

The Cyborg Program's co-lead, Dr. Backford, tells Lorn that the enzymes needed to stimulate the stem cell culture used to connect the prosthetic to the nerve endings still alive in Trent's shoulder are unstable and need further optimization. Lorn doesn't listen and violently responds to Backford, letting him know that "they are ready" but the government doesn't want him to get credit for the first successful advanced prosthetic surgery. The argument elevates and results with Backford recommending to his superior that Lorn be put on administrative leave.

The next day Lorn arrives with his son ready to begin the procedure. Backford attempts to stop him, but Lorn physically removes him from the operating room and continues.  He locates the prosthetic, surgically attaches the stem cell culture, and releases the enzymes.

Lorn smiles as he watches the nerve endings start to grow, but almost instantaneously, the process reverses and the enzymes turn the adjacent cells deadly and they start attacking everything in sight. They devour Trent's shoulder and chest. Lorn intervenes and rips the prosthetic from his son’s shoulder launching some of the contaminated cells into the air. They latch onto Lorn’s arm and face and start to ravish him. Lorn loses consciousness and is laying on the floor when Dr. Backford busts through the door with a fire extinguisher and unloads the CO2 onto Lorn, killing the mutated cells and saving Lorn's life.

A team of military physicians rush Lorn to surgery and replace his left arm and jaw with robotic "last generation“* versions while his nerve endings are still alive.

Lorn awakes from surgery a different man. He knows that his son didn’t survive and the day’s events catalyzed the rapid growth of a deeply embedded evil and hatred for the Government and its military. They took his son and he will do whatever it takes to pay them back.

The next day Lorn storms into the “Cyborg” Division chairman's office and grabs him. He studies him intently and tells him that he knows the government contaminated the enzymes. The chairman sees madness in Lorn's eyes and calls security. They quickly arrive and jerk Lorn from the room as he yells "I will make you pay for this! Everyone will pay!"

* The "last generation" versions were prosthetics developed under Lorn's watch but were less capable than the latest technology.

Dr. Lorn & His Plan to Conquer The World

A year later, Lorn is the CEO of Lorn Industries, an up and coming hazardous waste removal and processing company.  He was able to mutate the enzymes that killed his son into ones that transform cells and other bacteria so that they can process and recycle any form of pollution. He patented the technology, and before long his company was dominating the marketplace. Lorn is now regarded as an evolutionary in the field of environmental engineering and is adored by the public.

Although, few know his true agenda...Unbeknownst to the populous, he has an army of henchmen and genetically altered soldiers that are secretly causing the Earth’s major environmental catastrophes so his company can get the lucrative clean-up contracts. The contract revenue is being used to fund the development of a Cyborg super warrior. One that can be mass produced and help him pay back the government and conquer the world!

In order for his plan to work, Lorn needs to expand his company to all major cities in the Unites States and eventually to all countries of significant power and start "helping" with their environmental catastrophes. Once trust is established with the foreign governments and their people he will be able to locate his super warriors disguised as his "robotic cleaning crew".  The governments won't realize what's happening until Lorn's warriors have crippled their militaries…They will have no choice but to give him control of the Earth!

Lorn has genetically engineered four "Anti-human" Generals that will be used to execute his dirty work. Each one of them was a former crime boss, master mind, or military outcast and Lorn spliced their DNA with that of various animals and used his "mutation accelerator" to make the changes quickly come to fruition. The process resulted in four half-animal half-human generals that have a tactical advantage in any environment!

Lorn maintains his company's facade for years until the day he's been waiting for...the birth of his super warrior, Calypso!

Calypso Has Other Plans... Goodbye Earth!

Lorn completes his army and orders Calypso to set his plan of world domination in motion.  Calypso obeys and deploys the warriors all over the planet as Lorn begins to visualize what the new world will be like under his control. Things are going perfectly...or are they?

Over time, Calypso has become self-aware and realizes that he is simply a pawn in Lorn's game. He soon sees all people as the enemy and formulates his own plan to rid the world of these pesky humans.

While underground in Lorn's highly enforced bunker, Calypso explains that he's accessing a communication satellite linked to his army that will allow him to execute a perfect attack.

In reality, he's breaking into the government’s primary missile defense command center.  Calypso's advanced brain allows him to easily hack into mission control and launch the entire United States' nuclear arsenal. The world is doomed!

SuperSk8ers To The Rescue!

After hearing Lantoos' story the kids are depressed and look to him for an explanation.  Austin asks "How can we stop him?".

Lantoos is deadly serious and explains that the kids have been chosen by an intergalactic committee to save the world. They need to stop Lorn's company and expose his plot before he obtains the funds necessary to complete his super warrior.  But how can they?  They're only 14 year-old kids and Lorn's army of henchmen and genetically altered solders are well funded, well trained, and extremely focused.

Lantoos tells the kids that he can transform them into super heroes but they will have to give up their normal lives for the good of humanity.  The kids are in shock and stare at Lantoos in disbelief until he reaches into an alien safe and removes three skateboards.

He gives each kid a skateboard and explains that they each harnesses an alien power that will help them complete their missions. He also explains an advanced neurological training program (similar to the one used in the "MATRIX") combined with intense simulation training that will allow them to rapidly advance their tactical skill set. He also let’s them know that they won't be alone. He can take on any "Earthly" form and will transform into a talking English Bull Dog so that he can blend in as he guides them along.  Lastly, he shows them a device that uses alien technology to detect "disturbances" being created by Dr. Lorn.  The device’s output will give the Sk8ers a vague description of Lorn’s plans along with the most probable location.

He gives Austin a skateboard that can make him invisible for approximately one minute and tells him that he will be trained in martial arts and athletics in general.

Tristen's board allows him to fly for a limited period of time and he will be trained in martial arts and in all aspects of academics, specifically science and engineering.

Melina’s board can create a force field that is impenetrable to nearly all Earthly weapons and she will also be trained in martial arts.

Lantoos emphasizes that the transformation must start immediately, as the training will take some time and Lorn is getting more powerful every day.

The kids are so excited that they can't contain themselves and start skating around the spaceship.  Lantoos focuses and uses mental telepathy to send them a serious message. The kids instantaneously regain focus a gather around him. They're not sure what he just did but understand that it's time to get serious.

Lantoos goes onto say "The fate of the world is in your hands", and concludes by giving them three rules:

• They must conceal their identities.

• Their powers must only be used for good.

• The skateboards can never get into the wrong hands.
